Chess Birthday Cake

My boys have been playing chess since they were fairly young... Can't remember now when they started to learn.    Anyway.  I thought it would be fun to do a chess cake.
It was a lot of work.  Simple, but time consuming.  I purchased a candy mold off Amazon.com for pretty cheap, around $5 or so.  Then I used chocolate chips (regular and white) for the candy... I melted in microwave & filled the molds.  refridgerated.  TEDIOUS.
For the board, I made two marshmallow fondants.  The white is pretty easy.  The chocolate was very, very difficult!  Don't think I will do it again using that recipe anyway.
The very fun thing is after the candles were blown out, the boys played a game of chess!  Definitely one of my favorite cakes that I have made.  Worth the work!!
