Here's the deal: my cakes are definitely homemade & do NOT look professional. However, my kids absolutely love to look back though pictures of their special cakes. They know that I took the time to plan them & create them. There are imperfections on every single cake. I have had a few people say "you should sell your cakes" and I think to myself NOPE... because, the fact is, they do not look like something you would buy. My point in this blog though is that any mom out there can create a neat, one-of-a-kind cake for their kids that their kids will remember.
So here is Ciara's Fairy House cake... or mushroom cake... toadstool... whatever. I was at a loss when trying to decide what to do for her this year. So I just browsed around online for "girly" ideas... decided this is possibly the last year she could enjoy something like this... you know, she is getting all grown up on us.
The cake itself is made of 2 cakes baked in glass bowls. I made marshmallow fondant for the pink & yellow that you see. We needed some grass, therefore I made just a little buttercream frosting & dyed it green... Lots of options on grass though. I am NOT a coconut fan, or I would have bought some of that green dried coconut.
Candy is key in many of my cakes.... This one is no exception. I bought some marshmallows for the top of the house, nerds candies for the pebbles, mini colored marshmallows around the back of the house, jordan almonds for the larger stones.
I found in the clearance section at Target the little wind-up lady bug & butterfly. I also bought one of the "fairy" polly pockets. I'll try to add some closer up pictures in a bit.
